A few evenings ago I was sat in my office at home working on some images when I glanced out the window.
Something extraordinary was happening to the light.
There was a heavy shower, but the sun was setting through the rain.
I grabbed my camera bag and waterproof and ran outside. Sure enough, behind the house was an incredibly vivid, full-arc rainbow.
We live at the bottom of a valley and I knew there was no chance of getting to a high enough view point to capture the scene well before it was gone.
Instead of trying to manouvere myself into a position to photograph the rainbow, I concentrated on what was immediately around me.
I got two shots that I was pleased with before the light failed.
This image was my favourite because I love pictures where the main source of light is bursting into the frame – but isn’t all there – and I think this one captures that.
As always, let me know what you think in the comments.

Chris: Its one of your best – it has really captured the moment – lovely colour and sparkle – well done!
Thanks – it was definitely worth the effort going out in the rain!
Really beautiful outcome.
Splendid use of light – Those rain drops/dew turns this frame into a play of light and color.
Love it
Glad to meet you on Twitter
Hi Ilan – good to meet you too and thanks very much for the comment.
Wow! Are you a professional photojournalist/photographer?
But my love for photojourn never dies. I love your photos; might add to its essence if you had some featurized captions.
This is one of my frustrations…i mean dreams, to be a photojournalist. Well I had been one, when I was in high school I joined journalism contest, specifically in photojourn. My only hindrance is: not having a good, professional camera
Hi Liz, Thanks for your comment. I don’t really see myself as a professional photographer – more a journalist that dabbles in photography, though I do sometimes take pictures for work. Always follow your dreams
